WHERE JEFF STANDS
In just two short years, Jeff Berding has a proven record of Council leadership. We need your vote to keep Jeff on Cincinnati City Council so he can continue his commitment to real change.
COMMITMENT 1: Safer Cincinnati
Jeff led the effort to pass a budget that included 60 more police officers, more police overtime for walking patrols and a comprehensive youth violence and gun reduction initiative which have resulted in a 14% reduction in violent crime city-wide this year.
COMMITMENT 2: More Youth Jobs
Jeff led the effort to restructure the City's youth employment program, nearly doubling the job opportunities for youth through public-private partnerships, now providing almost 600 jobs.
COMMITMENT 3: Increased Neighborhood Vitality
Jeff wrote the new law that holds landlords accountable for excessive police visits to their properties and also provided additional funding for tearing down abandoned, crime ridden buildings.
COMMITMENT 4: Decreased Predatory Lending
Jeff is leading the effort to bring a national campaign to Cincinnati to prevent foreclosures that hurt our senior citizens and families and have a negative effect on property values and the quality of life in our neighborhoods.
COMMITMENT 5: Better Government Accountability
Jeff drafted a new law requiring the City Manager to undergo annual performance evaluations so department heads are held accountable for their performance -- making the City safer and cleaner.
"Working together, we have made real progress to many long-standing problems, but so much work remains. We are making the City safer and cleaner, with healthier neighborhoods and a more vibrant downtown, led by a performance-driven fiscally responsible City government. I am leading for changes that don't just improve our City in the short-term, but ensure that my children -- and all of our young people -- have a vibrant and healthy city to call home. I believe in Cincinnati, I am optimistic about our future, and I ask for your vote on November 6th." - Jeff

RECORD OF RESULTS
PUBLIC SAFETY
Jeff has been a strong advocate of increasing police visibility, and successfully passed a budget that will bring over 60 additional officers to our streets during the next two years.
Jeff worked with Councilwoman Laketa Cole to create a new coordinated Youth Violence and Gun Intervention Initiative headquartered at the Community Police Partnering Center to bring a comprehensive approach to crime on our streets.
Additionally, Jeff has worked closely with Councilmember Leslie Ghiz, Sheriff Si Leis, and now the County Commissioners, to solve both the short-term and long-term jail crisis.
NEIGHBORHOOD VITALITY
Council approved Jeff’s Chronic Nuisance Property Ordinance that targets landlords whose buildings have excessive police calls for service. Once a threshold has been met, the landlord is required to pay for all future police runs to that property.
Jeff co-authored a motion that allocated additional funding to demolish blighted buildings that are hotspots for neighborhood drug dealing and criminal activity.
Jeff also passed a motion restructuring the City demolition process for nuisance properties. The new method will cut City processing time from thirty days down to two.
Jeff has worked with Keep Cincinnati Beautiful to locate funding to re-establish the Safe and Clean Fund for grants supporting neighborhood capital projects.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Jeff worked with Councilmember Chris Bortz in taking the lead to create the Banks Working Group (BWG). Jeff has remained very involved with efforts with the BWG to reach terms on a Master Development Agreement to finally break ground on The Banks.
Along with leaders in the business community, Jeff and Chris Bortz also started the GO (Growth + Opportunity) Cincinnati Initiative, to create a long-overdue strategic plan for our City, and is working with the Chamber of Commerce and others on creation of a Shared Civic Agenda.
Jeff worked with Councilwoman Laketa Cole to create a new Youth Employment and Workforce Development strategy that will leverage the recommendations of the GO (Growth + Opportunity) Cincinnati Initiative and support programs that give young people job skills and a path for a hopeful future.
REINVENTING GOVERNMENT
Jeff’s “City Hall Works” initiative will ensure that citizens’ tax dollars are being spent efficiently and effectively. Working with a consultant, the advisory committee reviewed government operations and made recommendations to the City Manager and Council to improve the structure of government and service delivery.
Jeff also sponsored new legislation requiring that the City Manager undergo annual performance evaluations. Jeff helped draft the performance measures that will guide the City Manager and Department Heads, making them accountable to citizens.
