Police, Firefighters Back Berding In Council Race
Just three days after losing the Hamilton County Democratic Party's endorsement, Jeff Berding has picked up the endorsements of two influential city unions.
The Fraternal Order of Police and the city's firefighters union are both giving their support to Berding in his race for re-election this November.
On Saturday, the central committee of the Hamilton County Democratic Party pulled its endorsement of Berding primarily because he did not support Mayor Mark Mallory's plan to have the police union accept contract concessions to avoid layoffs.
Berding says he remains a Democrat and stands by Democratic values.
In endorsing Berding Tuesday in a news conference on the City Hall steps, the unions said Berding has always stood up for them and that they've always endorsed him and expect to now and in the future.
