Current Initiatives
Budget
As Vice Chairman of the City's Finance Committee, Jeff is providing strong leadership to make sure the city delivers essential services despite these lean economic times. He will be working to streamline and make the necessary cuts to keep our community on solid financial ground.
City Pension
The City Employee Pension System is feeling the brunt of our economic recession. The program is severely underfunded creating an unprecedented challenge and the need for leadership to restore the fund to solvency. Councilmember Berding is providing this leadership to make the difficult decisions needed to put this fund on the right track and save the City money.
Port Authority
Jeff is leading the effort for a new and improved Port Authority. By increasing the Port's capabilities through the recruitment of a new board, Jeff is empowering the Port to implement the GO Cincinnati Plan - a plan that will bring substantial investment and jobs to our city. Jeff recognizes that jobs are key to our economic recovery.
Regional Water District
Over the last ten years water consumption in the City has decreased 3% annually, but our costs to operate the Water Works have steadily increased. Without expanding our customer base, our water rates will continue to be a growing burden on city residents and businesses. In order to combat this shrinking customer base, Jeff is working with his colleagues on Council to create a Regional Water District that would allow Cincinnati to sell its high quality water to a greater number of customers outside of the City.
